Recollections of an evening in Moscow. From the early 1990s. When things were falling apart.

Getting a custom avatar…

You may have noticed that my avatar is different from everyone else’s. I used a site called Gravatar (Globally recognized avatars). It is free to signup and you can have a different avatar for each e-mail address you use to post to blogs. I have three e-mail addresses and a different avatar for each. The one on here is for my Wooster account. You can think of your gravatar as your personal signature. It immediately identifies you on any blog where you leave a comment.

Timeline: The Life of Owen

Owen

I was frustrated with my attempts this afternoon to make VoiceThread do something that didn’t take advantage of its best features (allowing multiple perspectives on the same event/story, whether participants or commentators).

Tonight, in about 20 minutes, Owen and I used xtimeline to trace some events in his life.  There is no help information or instructions for the program, but it is fairly intuitive to use.  We could embed video and map files easily, but couldn’t get the photo upload to work for some reason.  (It would prompt us to browse for a photo, but they never showed up.)  I can see how this would be useful to get students to build interactive timelines.

Joggle Iceland Slideshow

A slideshow to go with the Iceland fieldwork podcast - made on Joggle. Okay, so I don’t actually hate Joggle. I had a lot of fun with this activity until I couldn’t figure out the timing. Can anyone help? I wonder if some of the other options are easier…
